This picture really shows the harsh condition that the African Americans had to work under in the Great Depression. They would work in these fields all day and still they did not get enough money to buy things like good clothes and such. Most of these people are wearing rags and the only thing in good condition is their hats which keeps the sun off their heads. This was a lot of hard physical labor and the African Americans had to do it everyday, this was not good times. Everybody, even the whites were doing bad in this time, but the African Americans were already poor having bad jobs and this took away jobs from them, even some field jobs were given to whites because they were thought of as higher. This was one of the hardest times for African Americans to get through.
